Need to meet more people...

Where do you guys head out to meet people that you can eventually just hang with. I hit the bars today and just chatted with people twice my age (I'm still in college). Just wondering if I'm missing some secret spots or something. People in classes are ok, but they seem to only want to get together to do work.... what do you think?

They have to go out sometime...so get togetehr to do work and then when they do other stuff, you're cool. Best way I've found to meet other people is through friends...your friends have to be friends with people that you aren't. So go out with them.

The only way I ever seem to meet people is through my friends. I made a couple friends at college because they were my neighbors in the dorms. I moved in with them this year. I really don't get how to meet people.

At school, well, everything is lectures. So everyone is paying attention the teacher (including me), and so no meeting people there.

At parties everyone is stupid/drunk... don't see how to meet people here. "Hi, uhh... I can't tell if I like you because you are drunk out of your gord, but you are hot wanna hang out?"

The only way I ever meet (like really meet) new people is through my friends. I'm missing the secret here I think

sometimes u start hanging out with ppl from ur study groups and stuff.and if u r feeling particularly frisky.. just talk to ppl at the bus stop.

Thats the thing... I don't have study groups and I ride my bike. I mean, I could stop and ask some random person as I pass by them "hey, whats up" but what if they end up being a tool?

edit: Not that this is really bothering me all that much... I've got enough friends. It just kind of baffles me how you meet friends if it isn't in a dorm type situation.

Join some groups:

-> Public speaking groups (e.g. Toastmasters.)
-> Employment search groups (depending on how close you are to completing your degree and hitting the work force.)

I'm shy and don't make too many friend unless they are friends of friends and they come over to hang out on weekends or I have some other deal where I have to spend time with people, ie study groups or live with people. I hate being so shy. Its not like I try to be, but around people I don't know I just get all quiet, I guess I have nothing to say. It doesn't help in the lady department.

THE LIBRARY!

Why you ask?
1. The person is either smart or hard working
2. Quiet intimate environment
3. If you have nothing to say, it's ok!
4. You get to scope out the area first before taking a seat next to someone
5. Easy to start a conversation... "Oh I took that class" or "How is that class"
