Hello. I will be getting an ABIT KT7-Raid and an Athlon 1000mhz CPU for christmas and want to reinstall win2K on the hardrive from my old comp and put it into the new system. In anticipation and lack of anything to do I am messinging around with it now. Currently I have two hard drives in my system, an original 6 gig that came with the system and a 15gig that I installed myself. In this system it is backwards and the old and slower HD is the boot drive, I just dual boot and select the Win2k from the newer drive. I want my new system to be correct so I am trying to make the new HD bootable. It seems no mater what I do nothing works. I have restarted the system with the Win2K startup disks in and deleted the partion on the new drive, made a new one, formatted and reinstalled with no luck. When I restart and make the new HD first in the boot sequence it says that there is no operating system found. I know that in Win98 i could make this drive bootable in fdisk but Win2k doesent have this option... Any help would be greatley appreciated. Thanks.

rage17atm, Win2K's install program will automatically make the partition bootable when you install Win2K. Your problem is that Win2K's System Partition must be on the Master drive on the Primary IDE Channel. Win2K's Boot Partition can be on almost any drive. The System Partition is the partition that has the operating system loading files like ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini. The Boot Partition is the partition that has the operating system folder, usually named WINNT. The System and Boot Partition can be the same partition. Here's a Microsoft support article that explains the System and Boot Partitions: Definition of System and Boot Partition

What you need to do is make your 15GB drive the Master drive on the Primary IDE Channel and then install Win2K onto a partition on this drive. If both hard drives will be connected to the Primary IDE Channel, set the jumpers on the 15GB to Master and the jumpers on the 6GB to Slave. If the 15GB will be on the Primary IDE Channel by itself(this is better), set its jumpers to Single Drive.
