Yeah, so I need a new system and I don't feel like spending hours and hours reading reviews, combing over tiny differences between motherboards and things like that.

Upgrading from an AMD 450mhz, I would like to hear about some hardware that is generally reccomended nowadays.

Also, I think I may be keeping these components:
Soundblaster Live (dual card thing)
Viper v770 32mb (I don't really play games)
4x8 cdr, 32x cd/dvdrom

I've been away from computre hardware for a while.. I'll want a roomy hard drive, a 1ghz+ processor, a good amount of ram, good motherboard, and a spacious case.

Feel free to throw out any reccomendations, thanks

I will be doing lots with it.. I don't know how much I want to pay.. the price of a 'good' computer has went down since the last time I bought.

thinking about:

Western Digital 80GB

AMD Athlon 1333mhz

I'd go with a Maxtor 80GB, but I've had great experience with Maxtors. I'm to the point where I won't buy any other kind of drive

I'd get DDR. The Epox board is getting rave reviews from most everybody on the board that owns one.

-Edit-

If you want SDRAM get the ASUS A7V133. I have that board and love it!

If you are basically starting over and getting new ram anyways go ddr...

get epox 8K7A for 130.00 w/ sh @ newegg
get 2 256mb ddr for 120.00 @crucial
get a 1gig to 1.2gig ddr chip and you shoould w/ decent cooling get another 200mhz out of it...
