So I'm going to buy myself a PS1 and a DDR dance pad. Just need some suggestions. What DDR game to I get and what is the best dance pad? Going to be used on a hardwood floor, maybe some padding would be nice?

Padding = no.

Skip the PS1, install StepMania on your computer, get a USB-PSX converter, play yourself some DDR.

IM me if you are interested, I actually have two pads and two converters that I play on whenever I get the chance :)

you want to lose weight? actually do some cardio. DDR won't help. IMHO, 5th mix is best. you'll have to do the 9 stars, paranoia... naoki underground's insertion... the mats, any will do. the hard ones will run you around 160US. soft ones , all are pretty much the same.

still, you want to lose weight, www.johnstonefiteness.com, or www.geekfitness.com will do you wonders.

Padding = yes.

I've found that padded mats will detect steps much better than non-padded. Tape them down and it's great. Also better on the feet.

I would also go with a PS2 instead of a 1... get DDR max, tons of great tracks. Sure it isn't as great a workout as jogging or something, but it's a lot more fun, and will still get your heart rate up pretty good.

its hard to get motivated to go out and run. although i plan to run stairs every other day or something in addition to hopefully constant DDRing. personally i think DDR is a great way to lose weight, its fun and whenever i play it at the arcade it seems like a good work out

I can't afford a PS2. PS1 is much cheaper. I'll only be using it for DDR too, so PS2 would be a big ol waste (I really don't like playing anything on the PS2)

Get one on ebay for like $100-150... plus game and pads it'll be like $200. Trust me though, it is worth it.

In the end, I bought my PS1 for about $60. I used it for about a month. It sits unused, and only get to use it about once every 5 months. I work out daily though. I know it's tough, but a good actual cardio will help you a bit more, and cheaper too. In any case, tape down your mat. :)
