? need to lock GPU & Memory Clocks on low

I have a 5700 series GPU. I think it's a 5770, and I want to disable the fan and lock the GPU & Memory clocks to 157Mhz Core, & 300Mhz Memory to keep the temps down.

Is there any-way to lock the frequencies to those specs?

Flash the bios or you can use afterburner and edit a config file. Really flashing the bios is very simple and you don't have to fool with all that extra garbage.

How do I do that? I've never done it before

1. Back up your current bios using GPU-z (free)
2. Open your bios in RBE (radeon bios editor, free)
3.go to clock setting page and set your GPU, RAM, and voltage. Each clock number represents idle, 2d< 3d, etc. You want them all the same so make the all the same.
4. Save as a NEW bios, do not overwrite your original. Matter of fact make a copy of original and hide it away in another folder
5. Save modified bios
5. Use ATI winflash (free) to flash the new bios onto the card

I used this workflow to change the 2D clocks on my 5770 because once you overclock it the 2D settings default to "Idle" making multimonitors flicker really badly.

And and FWIW there is a small chance you could permanently kill your card. New cards have multible bios that make this a lot less scary. I had no issues experimenting with this several dozen times but YMMV Good luck

I think I should wait to try this until Haswell comes out that way if I kill the card I won't have to buy another GPU vs just getting an upgrade which i'd rather spend the little extra for then get another GPU for this machine. A Haswell will have the iGPU.. just like the recent crop of chips but i'd rather have a Haswell if this process goes south.

Sell it and get a 7750. It will use WAY less power, doesn't need an additional power plug, and there are passive versions.

Change all the states to the same values of 157 and 300mhz.

dont be scared to use a bios flash.
Ive undervolted my card and stability tested it and, and then flashed bios to keep values that way.

It stays cooler now, at less noisy fan speeds, im guessing useing less power too ect ect.

totally worth it. Just be sure you know what your doing first (read instrutions) and your good to go.

It would actually be great if I could eliminate the fan completely. I can still hear the motor whine from the electrical current, even while it's at 20% fan speed.

I like the idea of a passively cooled card for my main rig. Thing is I could also just drop in a Haswell system, use the iGPU off it, use the cash from the sale of the 5770 to absorb some of the cost, and in the end end up with a faster system.. :hmm:

sell your card and buy a fanless 7750. i have one sitting around some where. they run quiet and you can put a real quiet fan on it that you won't hear at all.
