Need to Lock Down the TV!

Can someone offer a practical suggestion? I have a Samsung HL-P5063W. I need to get the kids away from the TV. Just too damn much TV. Problem is, when I'm not around, the TV is on. It's the old "when the cat's away the mice will play" scenario. I use Comcast Cable and have their HDTV box, (Motorola).
Can I program a password, for example, that will completely shut down either the set itself, or the incoming signal? I see in Comcast's menu that I can select individual channels to block, but I want to be able to block access to viewing everything.

I was expecting the geniuses to begin replying with their helpful tips. Thank you so much! ;) But I think the kids know how to plug it back in.

Yeah, I looked at that, but I think that requires a channel by channel blocking.

get rid of it?you set a bad example by watching it, but forbidding your kids to.

Easy, Bozo. I'm not forbidding them to watch it. I want to restrict the amount of viewing. Nothing wrong with that.
As for me, I rarely watch the set, other than the occasional news program or football game.

I believe there are timers out there that control the power to a device. Don't know how well it would work on a TV as they're usually designed for lamps, etc. but that's a suggestion. Allow TV on from say 3pm to 4pm and then it shuts off.

Keep them busy. "When I come home, I better see the lawn mowed, the fence painted, the dog walked, and the dishes washed!"

a small lugage lock through the hole in the prongs on the power cord will do the trick. Two dollar solution.

Pure undeniable genius ... I am glad I thought of it.

I've seen little lock boxes that go over the end of the power cord. Unless they can unlock that box (or replace the power cord) they can't watch any TV without you.

Yep, those are used all the time in industrial settings where Lockout-Tagout is practiced. They're cheap.

I read about this new thing for parents that like, controls their kids TV watching. Each kid gets a swipe card, and the parent puts the # of minutes they are allowed to use the TV a day on the card. The kid swipes their card, and when times up, the TV shuts off.

A number of good ideas. A few things I didn't even know existed, such as the lock on the end of the power cord. I may go with that, although I was hoping I wouldn't need to be plugging and unplugging power cords. My preference was to block things via some password or some other high tech voodoo. Who wants to come by and hack into the set?
