Need to know S@H WU times for O/C Cel2 for next upgrade?

Anyone running Seti 3.03 cmd line cli on an overclocked Cel2 running about 900mhz please
let me know an average WU time.
I'd like to upgrade the third machine to about this level, would be cheaper than another
P3 but not if it doesn't beat the 13 hours the machine is currently average WU on an
OC Cel 300a running 464mhz with 128 megs ram.
Thanks!

Wiz - there are a couple of Celly2 benches in the bench tables here, sortof in the OC range that you're talking about. The bench uses a "typical" 0.417 AR WU for testing. The benchers were getting somewhere around 8-9hrs/WU with the OC to 100Mhz FSB.

Thanks Poof, I appreciate the info.
Now I just need to find a vendor for a good cheap overclockable celly2 😉

Since I hang out in the CPU forum, you can check over there and look up Compuwiz, one of the regulars, who sells guaranteed OC'd CPUs. Since most people look for guaranteed T-birds and P3s, haven't heard much about the Cellys from him but you could check anyway... 😉

Cel 2s are quite disapointing doing Seti as compared to the Dnet projects.

For the relative efficiency, I keep my Cel 2s on OGR, and traded the output of my P2 400 to Fardringle. The P2 does about 12 hours with 3.03 CLI.

Too bad that P3s cost so much more than Celerons. 🙁 Those 133 mhz bus P3s are better Seti machines.

Thanks Poof, I've bought from Steve 3 times now - he's a great guy.
I was thinking of what I could do for about $60 - maybe get 1 or 2 more WU's a day you know.
I already have the mobo, hsf, slocket so I just need a good overclockable cpu now.
My current overclocked P3 700e chips turn in WU's ever 6 to 7 hours. That's running at 868 and 933mhz.
I just bumped the one that was 933 up to a 143fsb so now it is at 1002mhz. If it runs stable I will know wht it's WU production looks like after a few units. Hopefully it will bring it to one WU/6hrs.

If I get a good celly2 600 and clock it with a 112 fsb I would be getting 1018mhz out of it. That
should turn out a WU every 8 hours which would be more than 50% greater than it is doing now.
Of course I might get a 'bad' one that only does 850 or 900mhz, or even one that does not OC at all.

Steve hasn't been offering Cel2's for a while now.
I guess I could wait until he has a good overclockable chip that will beat my P3700e @ 1002 and then move this baby over to the bx6 r2 mobo when I move in the future P3 xxx @ 1.5ghz that I know I will someday buy from him...

Gee Wiz (pun intended... 😉)

You're gonna be busy once you do set that CPU moving in motion!!!

😀

I've been playing musical chairs with my 3 systems for quite a while now.
Getting rid of the two AMD K6 chips was a big plus, now I want to get all of them producing at least 3 WU/day - 4 on a good day is even better.
So far my main machine is holding steady at 1002mhz 😉😎😉

Cool! 😎

I'm debating whether to flash my BIOS on my MSI K7T Pro-2A with the over-clocker's version that I just downloaded. I want to get 4-way interleaving enabled if I can, plus I think I need that extra 0.05V to try to get my Duron 700 higher (and stable) than its current 945.

Gotta...get...more...Mhz...!!!!! 😉

heheheh... more ... mhz ... yes ... must ... get ... another ... 15 ... mhz ... gotta ... try ... 😉

I figure if I can spend another $60 and get one extra seti WU a day out of it that's a good investment.
Over a year that works out to only about 16 cents per WU. If I get two per day out of it then it's only 8 cents per WU. If I sell my old cel 300a with HSF then that reduces the cost per WU even more!
Maybe 4 cents / WU.
This brings me to the point where I am tempted to calculate the cost per WU on my entire farm excluding the electricity. Then I'll figure electricity use too and fold that in. Then I'll estimate the cost of the entire seti project based on my estimated costs (to see what doing the entire project myself would cost)
Or I could just watch some tv.

Wiz:

Why no AMD Durons or Thunderbirds? Most $50 Duron 600's will easily hit 1ghz+. Also, a 1ghz Thunderbird is like $150 and it will easily overclock up to 1.2 or so...I have seen a few hit the 1.3ghz - 1.4ghz range rarely. My 1.2ghz@1.35ghz runs a WU in about 4.5 hours. Also, you mentioned you will someday get a P3 that will hit 1.5ghz...not likely. The P3 core will not go much above a ghz in most cases. I think rarely they will hit 1.1 with extreme cooling and a great chip. No offense, but the P3 as a CPU is reaching the end of the line...

Insane3D, simple: all my mobos take is intel. If I had a good mobo for AMD I would use it.
Last AMD I tried was total suckage K6-2 variety. I know the newer ones are better but here I
am with mobos that work with P3 chips and no mobos that work with athlon, tbird or duron.
So, there you have it. Maybe the future will bring me a decent AMD system, who knows. I
do know I'm near the end of the forseeable life of P3, and the speed I have on two of my
boxes will be enough for a while. I just need to bring the third one up so it can do it's
share of the work.
