title says it all. here's the system.

Likely, not going to be a duron :( becuase no mobo's are out yet.. we'll see.

-500mhz Athlon processor - 600mhz Duron, if the mobo comes available
-Gigabyte 71XE or Microstar 6195 (both Irongate) or maybe the A7V when it comes out (grr..)
-PC133 RAM
-Soundblaster Live or Aureal Vortex 2 Superquad
-ASUS V6800 GEFORCE 256 32meg DDR

That's all I'm worried about, the Geforce DDR price is still a bit too high, hopefully it'll come down.

I'm debating soundcards, becuase Aureal's future is uncertain. we will see what happens there..

IF no Socket A motherboards become available at all, I'm going to be forced to get a Slot A. I'm not going KX133 in that case, becuase I want to ensure at least some upgradeability with the CPU. but with the Irongate, it's been picky about RAM, however I'll try to get the dealer to guarrentee me that the PC133 will work with the Irongate.

IF a Socket A mobo comes out, that totally ends my problem, becuase the CPU will be upgradeable no problem, and there shouldn't be any problems with RAM.

what do you guys think?

I know that the V6800 and the SB Live! both work perfectly on the Microstar board.

good.. anyone else?

BTW, I am on a budget so don't go suggesting to me that I upgrade this or that... The 600mhz Duron with a Socket A mobo was pretty much the highest I could go anyway!

How can you not wait just a bit for a KT133 socketed board ???? And probably with the BIOS adjustable multiplier to boot (pun, pun). Just think of it.

:)

Irongate, indeed.

Irongate.....Schmirongate

:D

Edit: Duron's fine - you can get a Tbird later when the budget permits.

BTW, I noticed that some people have already gotten i815E boards, so maybe it won't take that long for the KT's to appear too.

heh that's the thing. this system isn't for me, and I don't know how much they really want the computer!

so that's why I have the backup plan of having the Athlon 500 + Microstar/Gigabyte mobo..

I'd much rather get the Socket A setup.
