Did you try phoning your ISP since it's quite possible that the mail server is down?

should rephrase the question, i just signed up for dathorn. want to connect to my smtp server at www.kermalou.com. but can't send out outgoing mail. somewhere i read that some ISP's block smtp servers or something like that.

Are you trying to send an SMTP message directly out or are you trying to send it via your ISP's SMTP server? If you are just trying to send SMTP traffic directly from your machine to the recipient, yea, many ISP's block that type traffic cause they don't want people running servers.

Try to telnet to port 25 of wherever you are sending to. If you can't through, your ISP is probably blocking.
