Or can i just use my driver's license/citizenship card? I know with a vehicle bordercrossing, you can use anything from a creditcard to a photocopy of your ID, but what about by plane?

Wife said that when she was little her parents needed passports and her and brother only needed birth certificates. I always thought a birth certificate was adequate, but I would probably call some authority to find out for sure.

EDIT: A friend in US now just told me that you don't need one... "Drivers license & birth certificate"

You need proof of identity and proof of citizenship. Drivers License will work for proof of identity. For proof of citizenship, you need your birth certificate or baptism certificate. If you go with a drivers license only, you MAY pass but more likely they will throw you into Immigration Control and you will stand in line for a LONG time to be asked a million questions then they will let you in.

Been there, done that. Find your birth certificate, it makes it much easier.

Birth Certificate and maybe license is all you need.

Passport saves you a lot of trouble though.

Baptismal certificate is no longer valid for some purposes (although I'm guessing it should be OK for the US). If you have a baptismal certificate, I would strongly suggest getting a birth certificate at some point. Furthermore, I don't even think you can always get a Canadian passport with a baptismal certificate.

Well, i just called the number at the bottom of the link that hopefloat sent me, and they said all i needed was a driver license and my citizenship card since i lost my birth certificate. So i'm happy... i can put up with a little extra trouble as long as it doesn't involve a full body cavity search.

Yeah i would imagine so for Japan... reading the site hopefloat sent me, at one time they even accepted just a Canadian Tire card to get into the US. Wonder why they're being so strict now.

Er, when an immigrant becomes a citizen of that country... you get a card with your picture ID on it.
