Neither one of them is actually talking. Or not saying much anyway.
The basis is that the woman is thinking all sorts of horrible things about how their relationship is falling apart and the man just doest care. Her inside monologue goes on for a while and gets more hysterical with each line.
The man is thinking "whats for dinner" or about how well his favorite team is doing. Something very simple and stupid.
The point of the joke is to illustrate how women build stuff up in their minds that isnt really there, and men are just clueless morons.
Cant find a proper telling of it anywhere on the interwebs and I wanna use the joke to start my presentation on communication in class on Tuesday (along with some stuff about modern technology and communications).
