I'm gonna be in Austin on Thursday for a reception thing and I'm gonna need to kill a few hours. My hotel is a few miles north of UT and the reception is really close to campus. I need to kill time during 3-4pm and 8-10pm. Any suggestions?

I would tell you to get a coffee at Mojo's Daily Grind, but it isn't there anymore. :(
or play some arcade games at Le Fun, but its the same story :(:(
You could go to the Alamo Drafthouse, the one downtown is at 4th and Colorado if memory serves me correctly. http://www.drafthouse.com and there are lots of branch locations now.

Downtown Drafthouse is in the process of moving to 6th Street.

I'd say go down to Town Lake & walk around or rent a boat, if the weather's not too hot. For the 8-10pm...the cliche would be to go check out 6th Street or 4th Street (6th Street = more undergrads, 4th Street = slightly better crowd). You can go to the UT campus, go up the clock tower, see the big fountains, etc. Go to the Hula Hut & have a nice meal sitting by the water. All depends what you want to do.

try some good mexican food... people at UT can probably give you some ideas. If you like spicy food, Madam Mam's near campus has awesomely spicy thai food.

If you travel down to the downtown area (take a bus, or a car if you have one), there's Gingerman's Pub on 4th Street which is a great visit if you like beer

For Mexican, there is the one and only El Patio on Guadalupe.

Check out the Bat Cave... It is exactly what it sounds like; the underside of a bridge which houses TONS of bats! Its somewhere near 6th street IIRC

That would be the Congress Street bridge.

In Texas? Your best bet is just to take shots until you pass out, and then wake up a few hours later.
