Need to keep resetting router

I have a D-Link Wireless router WBR-2310. Occationally, as in a few times a week the connection drops out. What i mean is you cannot access any websites, IP addresses, or use the internet connection in any way. I have to physically unplug the router for a second and plug it back in and I'm good to go.

What is weird is I can be connected to an online game and not be disconnected, but when I try to do a look up of players or anything that tried to search on the host server it won't return results.

I have Comcast for my ISP if that matters but this is a very recent problem and never happened for about 2 years. I have had the router plugged in 24/7 for about that length of time and only now is this beginning to cause a problem. The MTU is set on 1500, should I change that?

Do I need to purchase a new router? I'm getting quite frustrated. Like I said the entire internet connection through the router goes down and no PC in the house can access it. Wireless and Wired connections are broken and you cannot log in to the router without a reset by physically cycling the power.

Any suggestions?

Well router certainly sound flaky. You might want to try connecting one computer directly to the internet making sure your using some kind of firewall (windows default firewall is fine) and see if problem disappears. BTW you can only hook up 1 ip at a time with comcast as they charge for more connections (ip addresses)

Like I said, this has worked for over 2 years. It's only recently that connections start dropping out and it happens only sometimes with no pattern to it.

It works now for instance, but earlier today it needed to be reset where as yesterday it worked fine all day.

But I would assume most people have DHCP enabled on their router, so the latter is not an issue.

The firewall comment was in case OP decided to hook up directly to the internet and wouldn't have the routers firewall protection.
In that direct connect situation the OP wouldn't be using DHCP but rather ip address comcast gave.

trust me, the firewall doesn't matter... it works! Then out of nowhere it suddenly doesn't...

Latest firmware has been installed for a while too. Like i said, this is a new issue.

You guys seem to be misinterpreting what I said maybe someone else can convey my point on the firewall as well explaining that when I said you might have a faulty router e.g. it maybe working intermittently.

is there a way to find out if it's the router for sure? I mean direct connection to the modem is fine.
