Need to Increase Audio but WME is giving me problems...

A couple of weeks ago, my office recorded a program onto a dvd. Naturally, it's a .vob file but I converted it to .wmv via Windows Movie Maker. However, when I was chopping the video up so it could be put into powerpoint, there's a section where the microphone must've been damaged or moved because the sound becomes incredibly low. I need to increase the volume of the file in order for it to be heard.

I downloaded WME9 but everytime I drag the .wmv file to the program, I don't have the option to adjust the audio settings. I checked out that vista may have been causing the issue so I got the hotfix from the Microsoft website but it's still not giving me access to the audio...I basically get the Audio panel as an unselectable entity. Before I got the fix, I saw the 'mixer' and 'mute' options available (and would error when selected) but after the hotfix they are no longer there.

Anyone know wth I'm talking about and may know what's going wrong or if I need a different program? I have audacity but no matter what format I put the audio into, Audacity only plays white noise or a .9 second static clip. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks

In WME, there's a plugins tab where you could probably add and configure an audio levels filter. The issue is going to be finding one.

What you could also do is demux the audio from the vob to wav (try besweet) and use Audacity to increase the levels where you need them. Then in WME, choose "Both Device and File" for sources to select the separate audio/video files and mux them back together.
