Hi,

i finally made a decision,..

I bought the ZALMAN CNPS7000A-Cu
and
VGA Silencer Revision 3

now i need to know how do i remove the stock hsf on my Prescott cpu and Radeon 9800pro so that i can put these little baby on.

both of them were purchased less than a week. I have intel thermal pad sticked on my hsf... so how should i completely totally remove the pad?
also the Radeon 9800pro, i didn't install the hsf onto it, it came with it, i believe it has thermal paste, so how should i remove that also.?

I have bought a 5.25" bay FAN drive will u install it on the top slot? or lowest slot? I have only an cdrw drive. I was thinking putting it on the top slot, so it can somehow has some air going throw the ddr ram(cuz it is hot either), then where should i install my optical drive(cdrw)?

and i have a harddrive fan, it only has 2200rpm, is it enough?

first impression to the CNPS7000A-Cu(before i've seen it), i thought it is small and light however there are many position reviews. Once i got it in hand, wow, the all copper version is heavy. Weighting 773g. now i may need to think of a way to divide some weight.

thanks

are you talking about removing the IHS or the HSF on your prescott ?
cause i've not seen anyone remove the IHS with success that i can remember of.

removing the mounting brackets for the retail HSF should be easy enough
your motherboard manual might even explain it step by step.

artic silver is good too

good luck

i wouldn't use any thermal paste or thermal pads that come with any solution (even the retail thermal pad) because a lot of times they just gunk things up and don't work as well as artic silver (which cleans up easier).

If you wanna remove the thermal pad on the HSF (heat sink & fan) i recommend getting a smooth cloth and some rubbing alcohol or something. If this don't work then don't be afraid to use anything you might use to remove glue or paint from a metal surface. (just be carefull not to get any corrosive stuff on the cpu package or core).

hopefully the thermal pad crud should just whipe off with a cloth/alcohol combo after removing the hsf.

hope this helped
good luck

If you want to use the Zalman stuff....use it. I used it for a little while and switched over to AS5 and saw no temperature change. Plus it wasnt any harder to clean up. Zalman thermal paste = safe. Why are you so interested in removing the thermal pad off of your old intel HSF?? Just toss that POS over to the side.

You can not remove the thermal pad in any easy way. If you wanted to reuse your Intel HSF I would recommend a razor blade and some 90% alcohol. I see no way of removing the thermal pad for reuse. Not sure what your intentions are there.
