Need to have notebook mobo use external monitor

My notebook got trashed. I want to use the mobo and stuff to make a htpc. I will need it to use dsub and the notebook screen was trashed, also the hdd was trashed.

So how can I get bios to show on tv to reload os? I have it hooked to a monitor and I am not getting a signal. Should I get a signal, or is it os dependant?

Some laptops have a keyboard sequence to control the external monitor signal, check the laptop manual. If yours is gone look on the manufacturer website for a PDF manual.

This is what the manual pdf says...

<Fn> <F8>

Switches the video image to the next display in the
following sequence: the integrated display only, the
integrated display and an external CRT monitor
simultaneously, an external CRT monitor only, the
integrated display and an external DVI monitor
simultaneously, external DVI monitor only, and
external CRT monitor and external DVI
monitor simultaneously.

What exactly does this mean, hit both at same time, or push one then other? I will say I tried both and nothing.

Fn is like a shift key. Hold Fn, tap F8.

It's supposed to cycle through the list.

If none of that is working you might have damaged the motherboard when you killed the LCD panel.
