Ok I am helping a friend out on this one. Friend A's webpage has been hacked, he also received threats from his own yahoo/geocities webmail account threatening him. From the email we were able to determine the ip address of the computer used to send the webmail. Now I need to find out if Friend B's ip address matches the bastard's email that is threatening Friend A. I am thinking i'll host an ftp site for friend B one day and then i'll know his ip. Is there an easier way to grab his IP address? Can I direct connect thru aim and then know it that way? I dont need his pc's ip address , just the external ip that his cable internet provider has assigned him.

If you direct connect in AIM, go to a command prompt and type 'netstat -an'. His IP will be in there somewhere.

Just run a whois or nslookup on the ip. If it comes up as a block owned by the ISP your suspect uses, that's close enough to warrant a beating;)

not really, another individual who is a suspect lives on the same street in the same town, they are neighbors.

I know that it was him, i got his ip but my friend needs another way to get his ip so that i dont look like i turned him in .

I hosted an ftp site and grabbed his ip off of there.
