to argue my case that my house is not worth as much as it is (to lower taxes for those who don't know).

Do you know any good excuses or reasons I could use?

The only good argument I know is to show that similar houses in your neighborhood are valued for less by the property tax office.

Yup, my dad recently did this. He also had a bargaining point with them since he has his homeowner's insurance and 4 vechicles insured through them. Basically said you should lower my rates or I will take my policies elsewhere. They decided to help him out.

I think he's talking about property taxes not homeowner's insurance.

My property taxes went up last year while my neighbor's went down, but I missed the deadline date for fighting the tax increase with the assessor, so to make a long story short: make sure if you want to fight the tax increase get it done right away, most assessor's offices have a deadline date.

My parents did this once. Basically they pointed out that the exact same models of house on a much larger yard got assessed for less all over town, and that their assessment was also disproportionately higher than the rest of the neighborhood.
