Need to get PS3 repaired, but lost the receipt

A family member who wishes to remain unknown broke his PS3. The HDMI port is messed up. I don't think this is covered by the warranty, but he apparently needs the receipt to have the PS3 repaired. Another relative bought the PS3 for him at Wal-mart, but this relative is temporarily out of the country, so I don't think Wal-mart will be of any help to get the receipt.

What can anonymous family member do?

Thanks.

I know you said your relative is out of country, but you could still try going to Wal-mart, bring the PS3 UPC/barcode and some proof you are related to this person. If it was bought with a credot card, try getting a statement from this person. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas. I assume part of the reason you need proof of purchase is so someone can't get help if they boosted it.
