Need to get my first PDA phone - anyone have the Cingular 8125 and what do you think of it?

Hey,

The need has arose for me to have access to email during the day when I am away from my computer. I also need Remote Desktop to perform emergency server maintenance sometimes. With those requirements, I need to get a PDA phone. I have always tried to get the smallest phone possible, so the prospect of a PDA phone kinda scares me.

I have Cingular, so I need to stay with them. After looking at all of the offerings it seems that the Cingular 8125 is probably the best route for me to go.

Opinions?

Work buying it?

Kind of... I am purchasing it to keep up on communications for a small business I own.

I have one, just badged as a Qtek 9100. Does everything that I need it to do, but I'm now being tempted by the TyTN due to it's faster processor and 3G :(.

With Exchange as your mail server, the 8125 is hard to beat. You can do a wireless ActiveSync for your email, calendar and contacts.

I use the T-Mobile MDA, which is the same phone (made by HTC). With Exchange 2003 SP2, you can also do "Direct Push" email, which is similar to a Blackberry.

The best part about it is that it keeps track of anything you do. If you reply to an email, it shows that it was replied to in Outlook. If you change your schedule, or someone changes it for you, it syncs wirelessly as long as you have a data connection.

 from me.

Yeah, someone was telling me about the TyTN (Cingular 8525). However, I am assuming it is going to be pricey (I can get the 8125 for $300 easily w/o a new contract agreement). Also, do you know how I can check to see if 3G is available in my area?

i had it for about 3 weeks, so I can't say too much. I liked it, I used it more as an organizer and email device, didn't do too much with it.

Now, I hope you know that Cingular do not offer insurance on PDA phones. At least that's what they told me. And that's why I had it for 3 weeks, broke it one night and it was way beyond repair.

i bought one and returned it. Nothing wrong with the phone but it was big for my needs. I am constantly on the go and therefore need to use a phone even when I am driving (i know its not safe but I need to).

The 8125 was just a little big but the worst part was that I couldnt dial numbers without looking at it. Other than that, it is pretty decent. I use a phone(SE w810i) + separate PDA (x51v). But the 8125 is good (now only if they have a keypad, then I would get it again). It also has a qwerty keyboard which is a big plus (something I miss on my pda)
