Need to get into safe mode (Windows 7 HP). How?

I'm running VirtualBox (Guest O.S.: Windows XP SP 3).

I need to get into safe mode so I can have Direct3D acceleration.

Hitting F8 while booting doesn't work?

No, it doesn't. I've tried that. What about booting from my Windows 7 disk to get into safe mode?

Since it's 7, just do a hard power off from the desktop. When you boot it back up, it will ask if you want to boot in safe mode.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it out. I must hit 'F8' just before the Windows screen comes up. Before I would hit 'F8' and just get a list of bootable drives because I hit it when the motherboard screen comes up.
