my best friend has a sore throat, slight runny nose, achy body, and fever on an off for the past few days. She needs to get better ASAP because her lsat is on Saturday. So far, she has tried: nyquil, ginger tea, gargling with salt water, chicken soup, 11 hours of sleep...but nothing has proved effective.

Anyone has family secrets that can help her fight this "porcupine" in her throat?

Please help!

Time has always worked well. Unfortunately, she doesn't have much.

Tell her to keep [very] warm and well-hydrated.

Tell her to drink TONS of Green tea with Honey/Lemon -- I mean literally 10 cups of tea a day. I did that when I started getting a cold and it went away within a day or two. Also, perhaps taking an airborne tablet? Hope everything goes well.

go see a doc???

how severe is the fever... sigh... otherwise, the fever has to pass before worrying about other things. as said, time and hydration (water, real oj), are the foundations.

Figure by Wed. you will have a gauge as to what you're up against in prep for Sat.

some people suggest excercise, it boosts your immune levels and sweat channels out toxins... not the ones causing this, but perhaps those that the body would have had to spend energy to keep on top of are more avail. to take care of this immediate problem.

I find that when I get sick laying around in bed at home is the worst thing to do. For the past couple of years if I felt I was getting sick (sore thread, fever, headaches, etc..) I'd take a spoon full of pure ascorbic acid in the morning and do some aerobic exercise like running or rowing machine. Take a hot steamy shower then continue the day as normal, except have a few cups of green tea with honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice like the guy above recommends. Usually by the end of the day the symptoms are gone, even at night when they would have otherwise started to come back.

Well..you said ginger tea but you probably didn't mean this:

Go buy a fresh ginger root. Wash it really good and then dice it all up and put it in a pan of water. Boil it in the water for about 5 minutes or so. Strain the water to get rid of any ginger root pieces. Then drink the hot liquid. It will not taste very good...you can add some honey to sweeten it. This stuff will kick some ass.
