Need to get a couple of IDE drives...suggestions ?

I need to get two 7200 RPM IDE disk drives, and will be using them in a Raid 0 array. Western Digital has always been reliable for me, and I've been using a couple of IBM 75GXPs with no problems since they first came out. However, I've been hearing a lot lately about high failure rates with some IBM drives. Are all these failures happening on a specific IBM model, or on all their drives ?

If you have any other specific suggestions for quality IDE drives I'd be glad to hear them.

Thanks

Same here, but I recently upgraded to two WD 60 gb harddrives. I havent had a problem yet(* knock on wood *).

Ya, i agree with that statement "Maxtor drives have always been reliable for me. "

hehehee... but the new Seagate is also good and fast.

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like most everyone who has/had Maxtor or WD is pretty happy with their choice...I'll have to check out that new Seagate, too.

Well, since there were a couple of good recommendations I decided to stick with what I already had confidence in, so went with WD.

Abzstrak, according to your other post, you don't wanna hear which card I'm gonna use. 🙂

Now you got me curious, though. Was the Promise card that bad, and which chipset were you using it with ? I was using my IBM drives on an Abit BX133 (HPT370). Worked good for a long time.....then all of a sudden the array just disappeared. Probably something I did while playing around. Anyway, I've not used a seperate raid card before, so figured I'd give the Fastrak 100tx2 a shot.

Damn, you should have got two new Seagate Barracude ATAIV's. I have one, 40GB, and it's sweet! So silent and fast!

Barracuda IV 60GB owner here. Love the drive...quiet and fast.

I love Western Digital drives, never had any problems with em and they're fast and fairly quiet 🙂 Though I have heard of some people having problems returning them...just make sure you buy em from a reputable company and you should be fine.
