Need to FIX resolution for games

I need advice.

I have a display that ONLY accepts 800x600 resolution.

I have my desktop set on that 800x600 res, but when i start a game for the very first time, it automatically shows the default res it is supposed to do. That causes my display to black out, because it doesnt accept 1024x768 nor 1280x1024 etc.

That forces me to disconnect the display, then connect a CRT monitor, start the game, enter on menu-video-option.. etc.. set the res to 800x600, disconnect the CRT, put again the original display.....

It solves the problem but it is a big annoyance, each time i want to play a new game.

I need a solution for this, a way to force games to start a 800x600 no matter the res is supossed to use (perhaps a temporary way could make the trick, once started the game i could enter the menu and select the "permanent" 800x600 res)

Does somebody know an exe or windows registry mod or something that help me to get ride off this put-quit monitor?

Thanks!

Probably have to edit the config files before you launch the game for the first time. Search for a tweaking guide to the game, and edit it to get it to start out in 8 x 6.

You might also be able to set your video drivers so that resolutions higher than 800x600 are not available. Of course, since you've provided us with zero information on your hardware/software setup...

And what the hell kind of display can ONLY handle 800x600?

I think Patt's right. You have to enter the game's system files and manually configure the resolution options. It's really not very hard though, you'll be fine.

I have an Emagin Z800 3D Visor (a VR googles with stereovision and OLED displays with 800x600 res that only acept that res on 3d stereoscopic mode).

My system is a AMD X2 3800+ - 2GB Ram - Nvidia 6800GT - windows XP

The ini or config file editing could be a solution but i would prefer a "automatic" way for force the game to start at 800x600.

The driver method can be done with nvidia's?
Can i tell the drivers the max or the only res available is 8x6? And then games will automatically "obey"?

Thanks!

you can always change the target of the game take a look over at widescreen gaming forums google that they fix there res by that sumtimes you can actually change your res to 800x600 from there so it will force it to boot in that res you put it.
