Need to find wide angle mirrors for Chevy S-10.

No Lifer
Have owned my S-10 ZR2 for three years now. Never had any issues with visibility or safety until just last month.
I had an accident about 3 weeks ago that will probably end up costing me around 20 hours of community service and definitely cost me around 25,000 in damages (which is covered by insurance). I accept the fact I was not being smart and need to pay and be punished for it. I also took initiative to improve my driving skills and spend less time on the more dangerous streets in my town.

This afternoon I had a minor fender bender and it was more the others guys fault than mine BUT, it did make me think.
I need to see a lot more than I can right. The S-10 has relatively poor visibility. The side mirrors dont cover enough area and even though they are electronically adjustable I need to see more stuff at one time.
The inside mirror is decent but not great and because I have a tool box in the bed, I am slightly limited in my rear field of view. Its entirely possible for a low riding sedan to sneak up right behind me and be masked by the tool box. (Also limiting me is my short stature, which cannot be fixed.)
Granted, he would be a damn fool to drive right behind me in a small vehicle but I need to see ALL cars on the road, fools included.

I need a few things:
1. A tool box that sits flush with the rim of my truck bet, not one that sits on top. I have not been able to find one and this is so serious I may just have to give up my tool box and put all the junk inside the cab, which I really dont wanna do. I got my current tool box a few years ago because I needed something to hold junk and I couldnt find one that sat low in the bed. Now I am regretting it.

2. Side mirrors that cover a HUGE area. Not just wide-angle but BIG, so I can see a lot at once and minimize my blind spots. I try to look over my shoulder whenever possible but thats not always safe to do. I need to be able to face forward and move my head around just a bit & see lots of stuff on either side of me. Current mirrors are heated and electronically moveable but I dont care about that. I'll settle for any large mirror that is physically mountable on an S-10 pickup. I dont care how silly it looks. This is now a safety issue and I was never concerned about how "cool" my truck looked anyway.

3. An interior mirror with a wide view. It had a cable running to it to power some cute little lights, but I dont care about those. I need viewing area and thats the only concern.
I did find a generic mirror after a lot of digging, but it doesnt seem to be much better than a standard mirror.

At and that price I question just how good it really is.

A couple points to remember:
a - I do not have the money for a new car right now, so dont even suggest it. I am fully aware S-10's are far from the greatest vehicle on the road these days (especially for visibility), but thats what I got. I either make this safer and drive it, or I get a bus pass. The bus does not get me to school, and eventually I will get a regular job and need to drive to that.

b - Aside from buying a new car I am more than willing to be generous in my spending and if I have to lay out 400 bucks a pop for new mirrors I will do so. It looks like this dude and I will be able to deal with the recent accident without having the insurance pay for it. But overall I need to keep my accidents to a minimum. Even if they arent my fault, accidents look bad to an insurance company. They will start to think I am accident prone and raise my rates just for that. Over the long haul that will cost me more than the mirrors. I gotta make my vehicle safer, which right now means better vision behind and to the side.
I dont want to pay 400 bucks each if I can find them cheaper but........

c - I cannot find exactly what I need online. Thats why I'm bugging you guys. Google sucks for S-10 parts because ALL auto part dealers have the S-10 label on their homepage even if they dont sell S-10 parts specifically. I want something that GM does not make, (or does not make for S-10's) and the aftermarket community does not seem to be supporting the S-10's any more. If there are generic parts which will work thats fine, but I am not experienced with such things and I dont know what to look for. Thats why I need you guys. I am a member of an S-10 forum but they have about 5 regular, active members and those guys are much more concerned with turbo-charging and custom welded winches and shit. For basic stuff like finding quality parts they are not much help. They dont even know of other quality websites to help me out. I am hoping you guys do. My local mechanic is very good at fixing things but does not know where to find anything except OEM stuff, so he cant help until I get him the parts I wanna use.

I am open to any reasonable suggestion. I'd like to do more than just put one of those little sticky, circular mirrors on top of my stock mirrors.

Wait, why can't you check your blind spots? When is it not safe to check your blind spots?

When I'm driving around 60 and have to keep most of my attention in front of me.

I do the thing where I put my right hand on the headrest of the passanger seat (which keeps me from turning my whole body and thus turning the wheel) but because of the crappy visibility I have to turn my head ALL the way around and scan for a couple seconds before I get a good picture of everything behind me. I have learned that at 60mph on a busy highway this is too far and too long. My peripheral vision is good (according to my last eye exam) but if I am turned most of the way around I cannot see enough in front of my vehicle with my left eye peripheral vision.
And If I only turn my head slightly I cannot see enough with my right peripheral vision. I miss important stuff. I know this because I have almost gone into a lane when someone was there.
I dont care much for people lurking in my blind spots, but thats not an excuse for me to not thoroughly check my blind spots. Its also not their fault that my blind spots are so damn huge. Thats my fault for buying a pickup with small mirrors and putting in a big ass tool box. They shouldnt suffer for that.

But that was a fair question.

---- OK, new post. ----
Forget EVERYTHING I said in the first post. Just read this........

I want extra large side mirrors for my Chevy S-10 because I have a big penis and I want big parts to go with it. Something like the mirrors on a Mack truck.
Does anybody happen to know of a website or specific parts to help me out? I dont care if they are made for the S-10 or generic parts that are compatible. They do not need to be electronic. I will have a pro do the work.

Why won't the little convex wide angle mirrors work for you, though?

As for big mirrors, maybe check JC Whitney.

Well the first reason wasnt good enough for people, and the second reason was my big penis needs a big mirror.
I've had those little guys and while they do provide a decent field of view they arent big enough to see easily. I have to lean right up to them to see things, and in the case of the passangers side thats too dangerous.

BUT, I did check JC whitney just now. For some reason they did not pop up on google. They have plenty of generic mirrors that will probably supplement my factory mirrors nicely. And they only cost between 30 and 60 bucks a piece.
Thanks for the tip. I hadnt used them in so long I forgot they even existed.

When you're following too closely or attempting a lane change when approaching or inside an intersection (hint, when you know you shouldn't be!). So basically, it's not safe to check your blind spot when you are doing things you shouldn't be!

Won't those little round blind spot mirrors do the trick? You can see everything with them.

That's what I was going to post. EVERYONE needs these on their cars, they only cost a few bucks and are absolutely amazing. I can't explain how helpful they are.

The only way I've changed is to lose a couple pounds and possibly some folicles.
Also I moved across the country to a state I've never driven in before.

the mirrors on the s10 are already pretty darn big. i have an 01 s10 ext cab xtreme and have no trouble seeing stuff in my mirrors or over my shoulder. i would say visibility is great. better than my G8 GT which has smaller side mirrors and larger b- and c-pillars.

If you need spotter mirrors like those on a car or a tiny truck like the S-10, you are clearly not qualified to drive. The standard mirrors on any normal car or light truck can easily be adjusted so as to eliminate blind spots. The problem is that probably 70% of people have no friggin' clue how to properly adjust side mirrors so they foolishly adjust the side mirrors to see what's behind and end up with all three mirrors showing the same area of the road.

How to set your mirrors.

Indeed. I replaced the mirrors on my S10 with Street Scene mirrors. These are much smaller than the "dumbo ear" stock mirrors and I could STILL see very well. I don't ever remember a situation where someone crept into my blind spot while I was trying to change lanes. That's a lot better than what I can say about my Ford Escape.

Check your mirror alignment. There's really no reason to be able to see your truck on the inside edge of your mirror. Push those things out a bit so you can see some of your blind spot.
