I'm going to be making a proton pack soon and want to make a mold of it with silicone and then a sturdy fiberglass shell to hold it together. The only places I can find gallons of silicone are upwards of $100 per gallon. I really want to do this cheap, could I just use silicone caulk?

Caulk should work fine... There are many forms of silicone and all should do the job, so just use the cheapest available.

six replies so far and only one that's helpful. rather than caulk, you could investigate other molding supplies from artist supply companies. Try these:

http://www.lumicast.com/links.html - links to sites offering a large selection of flexible mold compounds.

Thanks for the USEFUL information. I'll have to check that site out after work tonight. I'm hoping to get something put together by halloween and having a mold will make it easier to make the other three for my group of friends to wear to parties.
