I just set up 14 computers for a dental office and when the company for the digital x-ray equipment came out to do a demo of the USB x-ray inserts the equipment wouldn?t work.
After several tries they said there equipment requires an Intel USB chipset, no other chipset will work. Well I think their full of _ _ _ _, but there isn?t anything I can do.
I can?t seem to find a PCI to USB card with an Intel chipset. If I don?t I will have to change out 14 motherboards in systems that are installed and running in his exam rooms.
Anyone know of the cards I?m looking for. Please help

Tell them that the U in USB stands for universal and to get their sh!t together. Do you have a link to the page for said technology, a scan of the manual, or some other documentation?

Time to send them an email telling them they just won first prize in the field of "Dumbest Hardware Requirement I've Ever Seen". What utter tards.

And according to a quick Google search, the only chipsets on aftermarket USB PCI cards are Lucent, OSi, VIA, and RealTek.

Anyone else want to have a whack at this?

USR modems not supported either, lol.

Honestly I deal with these "generic" hardware requirement spec lists all the time, and they are to be taken with a grain of salt. It's not that other equipment doesn't work, it's simply the software vendors lack of support on any other product(s). Worst case scenario tell your client they have to purchase an Intel motherboard to get an Intel USB "chipset".

You could always ask the Patterson people where they purchase Intel USB cards.

I went to the manufactures website and found a firmware for the equipment that is supposed to fix the problem. It would be nice if the company selling the x-ray equipment knew how to fix there product. I believe he is purchasing 4 of these USB x-ray at $10,000 each. For a $40,000 sale they should keep up on there equipment. We will try the firmware this week
Thanks

Another important note in installing with Windows XP is:

ScanX USB ? Must have Service Pack 1a with update KB 822603 or
later installed. Can not be used when the parallel unit is installed.
