a 1997 compaq satellite pro series

specs are:

Pentium (r)
48.0 MB RAM
Windows 95
File System 32 - bit
PC Cards (PCMCIA) 32 - bit
Hard Disk Controllers
Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disck Controller
Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disck Controller

and memory.

this will be for word, and internet browsing so it is more than enough, however the current cd-rom drive is busted so it needs a new one.

dont say buy a new one, this is my uncles, and he got it when he sold of a business of his.

and if i do this, and research stuff for him setting up a network in his house (wired/wireless etc.) he will fly me out to CA for a week or 2 to set it up for him!!!

yes he is rich, he once was ceo of nature company, has built up, and sold off 2 internet companies, and now is building up a online furniture store (not the normal stuff you find in stores, but the kind that cost 3 grand for business meetings, and that isnt the presidents chair!)

where should i look?
if its a pentium, i would have to get sum crucial sodimm pc100 sdram????????
would current cd/dvd combo drives fit?

I would tell your Rich uncle to buy a new laptop for $800 after rebate at his local BestBuy if money is an issue. They never made a CD-RW or a DVD/CD-RW for that laptop. I don't believe it has any USB ports for an external one either. His only option would be an old 2x external parallel port CD writer. If you are serious about this, go check out the for sale/trade forum. I know people put up old parallel cd-writers now and then.

no internal possibility? that is what i am looking for, is a direct replacement for the current cd rom.

and this is for his wife, and he doesnt like spending money.
