Yeah a female roommate leaving a note for the males of the house makes sense. But the alphabet magnets and badass pirate magnet don't jive with that story.

Now that I think about it, the female roommate scenario is just as plausible. Maybe they had leftover magnets or took some from home or something? I don't know where I'd get fridge magnets if I rented a house...
