Stepson has a 2 day football camp at Stanford in a few weeks and I'm looking for a hotel for a night for me and the wife. I've heard that Palo Alto is very sketchy outside of the university so I'm looking for options. One night, would like to be as close to the uni as possible, and I would say no more than $150. Anything fit the bill? Should I just look in Mountainview and avoid PA all together?

As previously said, Palo Alto is SUPER upscale. Don't worry about it. Drive around and see some of the shacks that go for $2m+.

Any of the major chain hotels on El Camino should be fine. There are a bunch of motels along there as well if you want cheaper. There are brand new Hilton Garden and Homewood suites near El Camino/Arastradero (McLaren dealer right there as well, so you can pick up a new ride too :p ).

You are going to have a hard time finding $150/night though in Palo Alto.

Thanks all. Maybe they told me east of 101 was bad. I can't remember. I've never been there before, but the wife went last year when he had camp so I thought I'd go this time.

I'd stay either someplace nice or cheap outside of the area, unless there is some unknown to me attractions worth seeing in Stanford area.

You know what used to be great for this? Google maps. But they forced everyone to use the new maps and fucked everything up.
