need to enter SLAVE DRIVE registry

I changed a value in the registry on my other rig and it won't boot. All I have to do is delete the value and i'm 100% sure it will boot. I took the drive from my other rig and it's in my main rig as a slave drive. How do I get to the registry and delete the value?


EDIT: these are both Windows 7 drives

perhaps a live cd like Hirens Boot CD that will allow editing of the registry rather than trying to boot into windows to attempt the editing.

I've been "Bing'ing" 'edit slave drive registry windows 7' and came up with two pages that suggest the same thing:

They are both suggesting to go to highlight Local Machine in registry editor, and select File, and choose Load Hive. I've followed the directions but I can't seem to find NTUSER.DAT - even with show hidden files selected in folder properties.

NTUSER.DAT on a Windows Vista\7\8\8.1 system would be in the C\Users\%username% folder.

If you have a system restore on your drive, this would be a much easier and safer way to go.

I actually just figured out why I wasn't able to see NTUSER.DAT on my drive about 10 min ago. I had hide system files checked under folder options.

What I initially did to screw up my other rig was I tried changing my SATA AHCI controller from 'Line Base Interrupts' to 'Message Signal-Based Interrupts' to relieve the IRQ line. I think that's why I still cannot access the drive even after following the directions using NTUSER.DAT Plus I never used restore point on my other rig so if I still cannot fix it with the above method I'll have to just wipe it and re-install everything. Same with this drive. For some reason there are hives that won't unload in my reg.. haha :biggrin:
