Need to create WinME and Win2K Dual Boot system

I am just getting ready to build a new system and need to setup a Dual Boot.
PC Hardware is:
P4 1.4GHz, Intel D850GB Motherboard, 512MB RDRAM, 40GB IBM Deskstar 60GXP Hard Drive, Leadtek GeForce2 Ultra, Plextor CDRW, Pioneer 16X DVD, SBLive, DLink 10/100 NIC.

If there is any known issues with this hardware under Win2K, let me know, otherwise I'd like to keep the discussion to the OS setup.

From what I know, I need to install WinME first, then install Win2K.
Can I let WinME format the whole drive FAT32 or do I need to partition first?

What would be the recommended steps and hard drive setup (partitions and file allocation table(s), partition sizes)?

The purpose of the dual boot is for maximum compatibility incase something (such as a game or other software) doesn't work under Win2K. Otherwise Win2K will be the OS primarily used.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!

why?, just install winme then w2k, I think w2k might let winme do dual boot if it is installed first.

Partition and format the 40 gig drive. Choose whatever size you want for each OS. For ultimate compatibility format FAT32. Install WinMe on drive C. Then install win2k on drive D. Win2k will setup its own dual boot manager. All hardware should work, although some people have complained about SBlive. My dual boot setup (win98se/win2k) works great with SBlive.

You should follow my and Iron Woode's form and go for a 98/2k dual boot instead.

After all...what features are there in ME that you would get from having a 98/2k dual boot.

I have had no problems with my sb live value in w2k, windows 2000 sets it up automatically but only activates the front channels, then installed liveware 3 for windows 2000 and works like a dream.

^bump^

Anymore suggestions?
Should I then just go FAT32 for the whole drive.
Is it even necessary to partition it?
If partitioned, what size for each partition would you recommend knowing that Win2K will be the primary OS. (WinMe is just there for any game or other software compatibilities that may crop up)
The hard drive is 40GB in size.

Thanks!

Yes, you have to at least have 2 paritions (at least a C: and D🙂 Use Fat32 (File Allocation Table) on all partitions. I use 4 partitions for each OS and programs installed for each OS. I actually have a total of 6--the other 2 are for setup files and the other is for mp3 files.
