Need to connect WAP + Dialup Server + 8 port Hub

I've got a computer running Internet Connection Sharing with Win2k. It's sharing a dialup connection 🙂() between 5 computers 🙂🙂() which are all running WinXP.

I just got a laptop and a WAP (D-link DI-711) so I want to try wireless networking. I don't have the slightest clue on how to set it up though.

I tried connecting the Hub to the WAP and got the LAN light to go green, so that's good. However, I couldn't connect to the WAP's IP (192.168.0.1) because I think the Win2k dialup server is running 192.168.0.1. So, how would I get them to work together? If I change the IP on the win2k machine, I won't be able to share the connection will I?

Please help! 🙁

ICS it not flexible with IP assignments, leave the current working configuration as it is.

Take one computer off the network and connect (using crossover CAT5) the Access Point (AP) to the NIC. Log to the AP change the main IP of the AP to a number above the IP of the 5 computers but on the same band. Disable DHCP in the Access Point.

Put the Computer back on the Network, and plug the AP to the hub (using straight CAT5).

If you can not make it working with ICS, disable ICS and use this instead.

AnalogX Proxy.

wow thanks for the detailed response. Just got done making a crossover cable so I'm going to give this a shot.

I'll let you know how it goes 🙂

well I made the crossover and plugged my win2k machine into the WAP. I changed the IP on the Win2k machine to 192.168.0.3 and tried to login to the WAP (192.168.0.1) through IE and wasn't able to get anything. All I got was "Connecting to 192......" and then it would come up with nothing.

I did try to ping the WAP and couldn't get anything that way either.

Any ideas 😕

you may have a bad cable there, we all have made one or more of those😉
if you can do it easily, hook the WAP and a computer to the hub, using two known good straight cables. disconnect your gateway computer from the hub while doing this, to avoid issues.
