Need to clean up a sound file

I need to find a sofware to clean up a sound file from a digital recorder. I have some dictation on it and the road noise blocks a lot of the speech and I can't understand it. It doesn't have to be great, just good enough so that I can understand it. Thanks for any and all help. I had a program at one time, but I can't remember what it was.

adobe audition can clean things up pretty good. if theres any point in the audio where its just noise, you highlight it and it will remove the noise through the whole file.
