The boss wants me to start learning linux since we will be buying Oracle and putting it on a lnux server. The server will have Red Hat, but we don't have the funds right now to purchase a desktop copy.

I need a distro as close as possible to Red Hat for me to learn on. It needs to support dual processors as well since I'm putting it on my workstation (dual booting w/ XP).

Thanks!

CentOS seems to be the most popular.

That's a direct Redhat enterprise Linux clone. It's built using the source code aviable from Redhat's ftp servers.

Other then that users typically use Fedora for normal desktop. The latest version is Fedora Core 4, and it will form the basis for then next-gen Rhel operating system. It's a bigger community supported project and will have the latest usability improvements.

But if you want closest you'd want a direct Redhat clone line CentOS.
