I am going trough the manual for my 2004 Kia Rio and the maintenance schedule states that I should change the Fuel Filter (passenger vehicle) every 72,000 km. The maintenance schedule describes and shows diagrams for everything else but there is no section and no diagrams or instructions for the fuel filter. Is it because my Rio is not a passenger vehicle (like a bus or something) and I don't have to replace that part ever?

Thanks

Yes - you should replace the fuel filter.

Generally is a $10 or less part and about 15-minutes of time.

Filter should be in between the gas tank and the engine attached to the subframe. Most difficult part is removing the clips that hold the filter in place along with the clips that attach the filter to the lines.

Wear gloves, you will spill a few ounces of gasoline.

Looks like it's mounted outside one corner of the fuel tank. Has 3 hoses. $20 at Auto Zone.

Its a task that owners aren't expected to tackle on their own. Just be happy the filter isn't in the tank. Those are always fun......

Other people have told me that it is in fact inside the tank but they do not know why Kia did that. I will have a look to see. Thanks

It's where mine is and shame on GM for this one, I was told the "filter" is actually a fine mesh sock over the pump input, ugh...

Changing the filter shouldn't be too hard, though changing the pump is something I would prefer to never have to do.
