So after doing well on my original project at work, I was informed my boss would like a bunch of Verifone terminals repaired. Easy enough. 90% it's just an internal battery that takes 5 minutes to replace.

The problem is these terminals show a "tamper" error from when their batteries died. I understand there is a software package out there just for this and I'm needing to buy it. I can't find any place to buy it from other than from a nice gentleman via Western Union.

Please help. It's referred to as "verifone tamper removal tool". I'm not looking for wares,I want to buy the thing.

It's my understanding that Verifone has it setup that way. Have you tried contacting them to ask if it's even possible to legally purchase the tamper removal tool without being a certified Verifone service center?

The thing is I'm not sure we aren't certified. Dealing with Verifone is like dealing with the worst third world tech support you can imagine. I was hoping to have a solution to present rather than an issue. Looks like I'll just have to pass this on to the president and let him decide which way to go.

Yeah, I agree; chain-of -command is a good decision because if this software was available to the general public, "secure card reader" wouldn't mean much.

While I am by far not an expert my brief reading of this says the software itself isn't really useful since you also need the encryption keys from the provider that you are using to process payments. I would take a guess they are not going to just give them to you.

We already have all that.

We use these terminals to process prepaid cell phone payments. I download and program them and them ship them off to merchants ready to use.

My boss has said he wants to be able to repair them in-house. So I'm just figuring out what all that will entail.

Not sure if this will work, but one site says to just "Hold the power button down for at least 30 seconds" Done from a full power off mode. That may work to reset the unit.

Thanks but I got the OK from the president to get the software and talk to verifone about getting parts directly from them. This trying to mickey mouse things just isn't worth anyone's time. Especially since this guy thinks big.

I wouldn't be surprised if I end up fixing more terminals than I program.

This is an interesting thread. We have a couple of Verifone terminals at work that are no longer working due to various errors. It's quite a few actually. Would you mind sharing a link to the persons you used? A PM would be cool to.

I thought I would update:

Turns out Verifone won't certify anyone to fix their stuff. So we had to buy the software from basically a random guy I found online. I was scared since it was almost $500 and I had no idea who the guy was. The deal went really smooth though and I can now do anything I'd like with these terminals.

Hi,

I have 1 Verifone VX670 with the tamper msg. I see you found a software to reset the error msg. I just want to know if it can be done without the software via the admin menu, if not, would you sell me a copy of the software, I know you paid $500 for it but I only have 1 unit. There is a guy on Ebay that does it for $50 but since I'm in Canada it would cost more in shipping back and forth, I can buy a new/used one on eBay for under $150.
Please PM me or email at peter at phpexperts.com
Thanks

You need only to enter system password 1alpha two times 66 8** and after that load batch file of modem profile of Vx670...for Vx520 you must load ipp key or load clear certification then modem profile and eos
thanks

you need to connect the vx520 to the PC ( drivers at verifone website) and have KLD (key loading device) program to clear certification

After changing the battery on a vx520, all of the led's for the nfc are lit up and they won't turn off. And the NFC doesn't work. Does anybody have any idea how to turn them off? Or any idea why that happened?
