Need to buy headphones in 3 hours! Need advice!

I'm running out to J&R here in NYC during my lunch break and need some advice. I need headphones for portable use with my iPod. I have the Panasonic IEMs (RJ-E80 or something) that cost me $90 but really hurt my ears and have begun to sound really "grainy" (there's a noticeable crackle at low volumes). I'm finding the IEMs are pretty uncomfortable to me after trying the Etynomic er6is an, the panasonics, and a budget "ear shaker" model - I'm thinking over the ear is the way to go. Though I need something that's easily driven without an amp (just the iPod) and not totally drowned out by NYC subway sounds. I was going to pick up the Sennhesier PX100s but heard they're awful on the subway. I loved my grado SR60s that broke but J&R doesn't sell Grado headphones and I'm in a bit of a rush to get some decent cans. Price is not a major issue, though I'm not an audiophile - if $40 cans do the job then groovy, but if $250 do it SIGNIFICANTLY better than I may bite.

Thanks!

don't use open headphones in public man...

i had the ex71s and they were really muddy and hurt my ears after a way, same with most iem (in ear monitor) headphones (or canalphones). Any other suggestions?

I use the Koss Plug with my Ipod and they're great: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4031631

You might not like them since they do put out more base and maybe not as much of the "high tones". But they're cheap headphones, block other sounds, durable, and dirt cheap.

Some reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00081.../104-3303939-9455155?v=glance&n=172282

Some hate them, some love them. Since I workout all the time with my ipod I prefer to use something that doesn't cost a fortune to replace if I break them.

Shure E2C (you can find them for <$75 easily online, new and w/warranty) = Pure Gold

I have the E2C's and they are fantastic. I got mine for 60 bucks from buy.com. For travel they are great because they are discrete and block out a lot of noise.

I also own the grado sr-60's but its kinda hard to use those in public 🙂
