I need to buy a relatively fast, but non-gaming machine for my parents (I have no time to personally build them one unfortunately). I have been out of the desktop loop for a long time now, and I was wondering who still makes a decent desktop computer? They want something that is above basic level (i.e. Pentium 4/Athlon 64, 1GB RAM, minimal HDD space) but they don't need a gaming machine. Dell offers crazy deals (and I could perhaps get a 2005FPW or 2405FPW out of the situation!) but how would that leave my parents? How is HP? They offer A64 processors, and this build I customized looks good:

d4100e series
Athlon 64 3700+/1MB L2 Cache
1GB PC3200
NVIDIA GeForce 6200se
80GB 7200RPM SATA
16X DVD+/-R/RW
9-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394
2 Year Service Plan

The price is $998.99 -$150.00 MIR= $848.99

Are there any other companies I should look at?

Thanks for your help!

looks fine. dell computer are OK[/b[ but thier tech support is... wats the word to describe it? Horrible! add the pirce of a moniter and ur overall will go up a lot. especially if u get them that nice 2405FPW. but if it's what u want... i would maybe suggest making it more Vista compatible. even without gaming, a 6600GS can be had for cheap and will work better as it doesn't rely on turbocach. also, that 80gig hd maybe what ur parents think they need, but in reality it fill up pretty fast. a 120gb hd is a 50% increase in space without the 50% increase in price. just think about what is said. apart from that, it sound great.

Tech support isn't really what I was worried about, I'll be their tech support. I'm just worried about warrantee service.
