Anything you can recommend for $80-$100? I have pretty wide feet, size 10.5/11 if that matters.

Yea try all of them on. I have to have steel toe ones for my job and I just tried on 3-4 pairs until I found one that was good. Look for a boot truck and ask the person there.

and don't forget to test how comfortable they are by doing the safety dance.

you might see if your employer will help with costs....some will, and if they will pitch in even 50-100 then you can get a nicer boot that is more comfy for all day use. TBH, I just used Payless crap boots, and I was putting 10-20 miles a DAY paving asphalt in the summer. Dr. Shoals inserts FTW

I got a few pair of Dr.Martin's. I like them because they have a wide toe area. Many of them were too tight in my toes and gave me ingrown toenails. Be aware that these are horrible on ice though.

Walmart has a good selection of safety shoes, and I know they carry wide for I have a size 15 foot, and some times they have them, and some off 14 wides would fit me. When you have as big a foot as I do its really hard to find any shoes that dont cost an arm and a leg in my size, walmart, and payless online is the only places I can buy shoes for me under $30, mostly payless online though

I've got a pair of red wings that I love. Solid solid boots, worn them almost every day for the year I've had them and they still don't show any sign of wear getting to them.

Comfortable (but the break in period was fairly long), supportive, not too heavy (they come up pretty far on my calf, have steel toes, size 14) all things considered.

They look OK, too. Some of the safety boots out there are ridiculous.

edt: bought on my employer's dime.

I'll second that emotion!

Red Wings are the CHEAPEST boots I'll buy for my feet. I learned at an early age, that you should never try to scrimp on your boots or your mattress...you spend too much time in one, and not enough in the other, so you want them to both be as good as possible.
Fortunately, I rarely work on jobs that REQUIRE steel toed boots, (often requested or recommended, but never REQUIRED...union rules say the contractor has to pay for REQUIRED safety equipment)
For most of 30 years, when I bought work boots, I bought these:

I tried cheaper boots a couple of times, and my feet always let me know what they thought of them...
Even Red Wings are a huge step down...compared to my Whites, the BEST pair of Red Wings feels like putting on a pair of tennis shoes.

Since you live in the GTA.. go to Mr Safety. Kennedy Commons. My work gives us $80/yr or $160/2yr for safety shoes.

What qualifications do you need?

I'd vote Red Wing, although I don't think that when I was working in a factory ANY shoe proved to be durable enough for an excellent recommendation from me. Although the benefit to the situation was that my boots never lasted long enough to get uncomfortable inside and warn down inside. Damn molten iron tore things up REAALLL fast.

If you need metatarsal guards, I would suggest getting some that aren't attatched to the shoe. Make sure they have straps that go behind the ankle and under the foot if you need them, too.

Unless you are required to have steel toes, avoid them as they hurt your toes.

Wolverine Durashock is what I have always worn for comfort, however I think their quality is slipping. Bought a new pair today because they are about the only shoe that will fit me right.

Dont buy cheap boots, you will replace them twice as often and your feet will let you know you made the wrong decision.

I looked at a pair of Timberland today that seems very solid, maybe someone here knows what their quality is like.

i wore a pair of work boots i had for a good 3 years, well after the insole wore out, because of those comfy dr scholls. they rock.
