Need to buy a new storage drive...

Is there any reason not to buy the 1tb Seagate that BestBuy has on sale for $66? I've read about some questionable reliability from the Seagates. I know all components have the possibility to fail, I've just always used WD drives and had no problems.

The drive is simply going to be a storage drive for videos, photos, and mp3s. I don't anticipate having it in constant use. With drive prices continuing to skyrocket and likely not coming down for a while, I need to get what I can while I can so I can build a new system.

For the way prices for hard drives are going, no there isn't really any reason. In fact, I would probably go & buy it anyways b/c (using Newegg as an example) Today the hd your looking at might be $66, tomorrow it might be $86. If people say seagate is bad, then you can always return it. I can say that I have had Seagate & had to return a couple for warranty, but the same thing happened with Maxtor, WD also.

I'd say buy it. I have one of the worst Seagates known for lack of reliability and I've been beating on it for almost three years now...which doesn't mean much in a sample size of one, but sometimes you've got to be froggy and leap.

I'll probably just go ahead and grab it while I can then, I can always return it like choli said. It won't be holding vital or irreplaceable data so I can deal with warranty if I need to.

Personally I would buy a WD black label instead. Their five year warranty is hard to beat, and their RMA is second to none. Even if it costs $10 more... it makes me rest easier.
