I'm looking at buying a good quality digital camcorder. I'm wanting to spend around $500-$700. Currently looking at the Sony TRV-33, MiniDV Camcorder (I found a really good price on it) Any other opinions? I heard the Canon ZR series is a good competitor, but I can only find info on the low end model. And I went to Camcorderinfo.com found their site pretty hard to navigate, but found some decent info

Don't hide it in the closet, she might check.

Cover any lights on it with black tape. Check it in the dark.

Do a test run first.

Let me know where you are going to host it.

I recommend the Sony. I have the TRV-19 (B&W viewfinder, lower resolution digital picture taking abilities-although, the TRV-33 takes crappy pictures also they just aren't as crappy as the model I have). I own a digital camera though so I don't care about that feature and I always use the LCD when shooting movies.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Canon. I would go with Sony.

Okay man I'll tell it to you straight.... DO NOT get the Canon ZR series camcorders.... waaayyy too grainy.

Go with the TRV-19, 22 or 33.... the 22 and 19 models actually have better picture quality than the 33, but it has more features I believe.

But seriously, stay away from the Canon ZR, specifically ZR65MC. (70 is no better)

search google for digital camera hq, and you'll notice they have also have a camcorder section

Also check out cnet.com reviews

I just picked up earlier this month the TRV-38, which I understand is just a bigger trv-33. The TRV-38 is a nice camera, haven't really put it through it's paces yet.

MiniDV is really nice compared to 8mm video.
