All I have is AVG pro trial (will get the full version when it expires)

any other good free programs that can cover other issues such as spyware

I recommend starting with this: use a Limited account for all daily-driver purposes, and elevate to Admin level when necessary. This is a security measure itself, and helps reinforce your other security measures too.

In practical terms, if you've been using an Admin account, create a new Admin account, then flip your existing, established account from Admin to Limited so you don't have to set everything up again.

For free antivirus software, try AOL Kaspersky for non-commercial uses.

If your system has a CPU that supports hardware DEP (which means most recent CPUs), fully enable it like in this pic.
