My friends and I are planning a trip to Las Vegas for a little fun and excitement:-D The problem is that none of us is 21 and we're worried that we cant get our room if we're not 21. Do we really need to be 21? We want a hotel on the strip, not some cheasy motel miles away.

thanks

Yes you need to be 21 years old-- went 4 years ago and learned the hard way...
I had a valid credit card and cash for the room - they wouldn't rent me the room without showing ID and neither of us were over 21.

We only tried this at some of the main casino on the strip (MGM, Luxor...) and they wouldn't let us unless someone in the group was over 21.

call ahead and ask, I hear rumors that some hotels will let you

I think if you're over 18, and have a valid credit card (which they will pre-charge) it's OK. If you go to the Vegas Chamber of Commerce website, get the numbers from a couple hotels and call 'em. I don't think you'll be able to drink or gamble, but there's lots of other things to do in Vegas.

Depending on what the budget is, try Circus-Circus or the Frontier on the lower end, or Harrah's, Treasure Isle, or Bally's for somethig in the middle, or any of the new places (Bellagio, Alladin, Venetian, Paris, Mandalay Bay) for some of the more expensive places.

The Hard Rock Hotel is not on the strip, but probably caters to a younger crowd, and cab service isn't too bad or expensive.

If you stay downtown ("Glitter Gulch") the rates are pretty good. Try the Golden Nugget or Binion's Horseshoe.

Good Luck

For some reason I thought that you could gamble in Vegas at 18...I'm probably wrong though

Yes - you can rent a room under 21 years old (or at least you used to be able to 8 years ago).
No - the legal age for gambling is 21 too, not 18.

Have fun....if you're driving and have some time to kill during the day I can highly recommend heading out to the Valley of Fire - about 45 minutes north of Vegas off the 15...can't miss the exit.

A couple of Valley of Fire Pics (w/ car)

Have fun.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, and ended up staying here.

IIRC, the law is that you must be 21+ to stay at a hotel with gambling facilities, so you won't find a hotel on the strip. However, the linked hotel is quite close to the strip, about a mile.

You are supposed to be 21, but if you have a credit card you can probably get away with it. I rented a room in Vegas when I was 19. All they asked for was my credit card.

Hehe. I played poker in Vegas when I was underage. Then one day when I try to buy in, they ask me for ID in Frontier where I've been playing for a while, and I said, "Uhhh, I left my ID in my car" and then went to Excalibur. :)
