Myself, being in need of tires, I decided to check around.
Lo and behold, I noticed that Pep Boys has the following offer...

FREE $50.00 Shopping Card when you buy 4 Futura Touting SE Plus, HR, VR or Adventurer Tires.

Normally about $50 - $84 dollares per tire.

To make it more enticing, there is a $50.00 GNC members coupon floating around. Good till 04/30/04.

So, to sum it all up, buy $250.00 in tires etc and get $50.00 off (GNC Coupon) and a $50.00 Gift Card.

Sounds like a decent deal to me. Hope it helps someone.

Jesse

They only sell Futura tires. I guess it's their own brand or something, but I've never seen reviews of 'em in places like tirerack.com so I can't risk it. Now if it was a Best Buy gift card, I might consider it. ;)

Futura all season tires aren't too bad at all for a daily driver. Nice tread pattern for rain and snow.
I have no idea about their performance tires.
Tirerack probably has better tires for slightly cheaper, but Pep Boys comes out cheaper when you factor in shipping and labor.

Just my experience with Futura tires: The treadware is extrememly bad. I bought 2 and within 2 years and 30k miles they were practically bald. No, i don't drive it hard.

Agreed. Futura tires are junk. It's better to pay a little bit more now for something better and have them last than to constantly be changing them because the prices are lower than other brands.

If you really wanted, you could buy three tires, then use the 50 towards the 4th tire I suppose

Pep boy tires are either made by Continental or Kelly, I forget which, but I use them on both of our cars, a 91 Mustang with Furtura GT, and 99 Continental with Furtura SE Turing. Even with the full package upgrade of warranty etc the prices are DIRT cheap for what you get, which can be a pretty decent tire with a huge wear warranty (80k miles). On the Mustang the tires and service have been great, including a nail through the sidewall that got both tires on that axle replaced. The Continental had some bad wear on the inside of one tire and required some arm twisting and proof of alignment, but is doing fine on the two replacement tires.

Pro
Good tires, cheap prices, long warranty, nationwide service.

Con
Its Pep Boys, don't expect to impress brand fixated people, expect some things to take more time, be prepared to be firm in getting problems solved, finally expect some problems (watch for abnormal wear).

Would I buy again? YES
Nobody sells 100% perfect tires, and I now know how to deal with PepBoys on problems.

Dang, wish mine would last that long. Michelin 80K tires - 1 year, 12K miles, tread bars are showing. (ie, the tread bars are starting to wear because the tread's that low). I used to have a Celica AllTrac. HR Tires lasted an average of 25K on that car, with rotation every 3K miles or less. otherwise, they only lasted about 9K-12K miles. 30K sounds pretty good given my experience.

i got touring hr 16/205/45's on my Protege and it handles incredible with them, no squeeling on hard turns and very responsive road feedback. however, they are made by kelly and have the common kelly flaw, road noise, which is pretty high (and explains the quick treadware) but in particular my tires have poor wet traction, including snow/ice but I'm pretty sure its because they're just very wide tires (7.5") on a very light car (2580lbs)

How can you tell if the tire is manufactured by Kelly or Continental?

Futura tires actually aren't the bargain they used to be. 2yrs ago I was able to buy Futura 2000 LTE tires in 225/60R16 for $43/each normal price. Now they are $57/each. Oh well.
