Need tips for OCing a classic athlon

Well, I just ordered a 1.2ghz thunderbird which is guarenteed to OC to 1.4ghz, I decided to OC my current class athlon (i dont know why). It is a 700mhz (dont know real core). I just bought a GFD off someone @ anandtech forum. I also bought a new CPU heatsink/fan (old one fan died). How can i take off all the heat compound off of the cpu? I ordered some of that silver compound thing (dont remember name) so i want to apply that instead. Also, what can I expect it to OC to if it has a 700core? 800core? Thanks for the help
