need tips for installing 8500

i currently have a leadtek geforce 2 pro, and 2m, i'm trading my friend my card + cash for a radeon 8500. i'm a bit worried about some of the stories about the 8500 not installing correctly, and conflicting with their old geforce drivers. i was planning to uninstall the drivers for the geforce, run detonator destroyer, turn off system, take out the geforce, pop in the radeon, and install drivers from cd. anyone find this not a good system? i kno its probably best if i install it on a fresh install of my os, but i have lots of vaulable crap on my hd that i don't want to delete ( i have 60 gigs that i would have to backup if thats the case). wondering if anyone had any experiences like mine and i ask if you could tell me how they turned out, thx.

make a ghost clone backup and store it, format c:, do a clean install test and test that config for like a few hours or try it on some of the game you play and see if it's stable.. if so, then restore backup clone, remove driver, install card, install driver and see if the result are the same or not.

Det destroyer doesn't get everything and that seems to mess things up with ATI's drivers. They work fine, but they aren't very robust.

People are having the best luck by doing a complete reinstall. There's always an old reg key floating around to screw things up if you don't start from the ground up.

Well, I do not think nVidia reg keys are hidden under MSWord or something, just be reasonable, deinstall nVidia drivers, change to VGA adapter, search registry for nVidia or Detonators or whatever and delete all entries that are left over. Thats it. This clean reinstall is the worst idea I ever heard, why to reinstall everything, it takes like half a day or more.

Think, and everything is going to be fine.
