How do most people get around in Toronto, they got a good public transportation system, or recommend cabs? or rentacar....

I find Toronto too big.

They do have an extensive public transit system.

I was there over the summer and went to a club called "This is London". I recommend it if you are into clubbing and stuff (which I am not, but enjoyed anyhow).

Yes, we do have excellent public transportation in the form of our under-funded TTC.

I wouldn't recommend driving around downtown, lots of gridlock and stupid rules (eg. no left turn, too many one-way streets).

Cabs will probably overcharge you as well, so take the TTC and/or walk.

I would say check out Queen St. W if you're into anything like;

skating/boarding/raving/piercings/head shops/much music/blah blah blah blah. There are tons of cool shops on Queen W & there's usually a lot going on in that area most times of the day & night.

that's also around & part of the clubbing district so if you're into clubbing might wanna check it out.

there's a great place (maybe 2 locations) the one I know of is near Hwy 7 & Weston/Jane <- sorry can't remember which. Dave & Busters. Bar + Pool, Video Games (COOL ones), etc. etc. The funny part is a lot of the games have warnings not to play after drinking, LOL!

since I see you're 20 = not quite legal age in US.
clubbing is great in Toronto.

I had to purchase 3 last-minute tickets between Wash, DC and Toronto back in 1998. At the time, the tickets were priced at approx. $850. These tickets were for Air Canada flights. You might be able to shop around a bit to see if you can get something more competitive than $690. I only paid $850 for each ticket because it was for company travel.

Sheraton centre is right downtown... you can take a cab or use the subway if you are just going to be staying in the downtown core.... a rental would be a waste of $$ and effort because of parking costs etc... also the traffic can get annoying....

There are 10000s of resteraunts, clubs, shows etc to do and everything will be within 5-10 mins.

People in their 20s??? well clubbing, shopping, you can visit the CN tower etc... lots of nice resteraunts...

If you want to make your hotel stay cheaper you can just book the flight and book the rooms on Priceline. I've used priceline to book in toronto over 100 times and 99% of the time i get the Marriot Eaton Centre or Courtyard Marriot on yonge + college for $35/night. ... go to biddingfortravel.com and check the toronto forum and they will let you know the bidding price for that weekend... i've paid as little as $25/night before to a max of $35/night USD....

the TTC is decent there.. buses and things... also there is the "GO" train. which is also decent.

you shouldn't have a problem getting around.

if you like the european flavour/scene go to montreal... it's very euro... clubs are mostly that dance/techno stuff... guys in tight jeans .... and knowing a bit of french helps..

Toronto is like a safer, smaller NYC...

If you come to Toronto, just remember Younge street is pronounced as Young street. I've heard tourists call it young-e.

Toronto's a great city if you know where to go. Stay the hell out of the suburbs. Spend as much time in the heart of the city as you can - that's where it's all at. Younge, Queen, Lakeshore, etc. Hit up the clubs. Guvernment is just by the lake, and is by far the city's best club complex. Get some great food, drop by the numerous massage parlours, whatever. As for getting around the city - public transit's as good as it can be, but it still blows. So if you've got the cash, rent a Mustang from Budget or something along those lines.

I love going to Toronto (I live in NYC). I agree with staying downtown. Personally, I always go during a sports season so I can see either the Blue Jays or the Leafs (much rather go to the ACC to see the Leafs). I don't go clubbing or anything like that, but there are good restaurants to visits, exciting streets to walk around, etc. I used to love this gaming place, Play something, but it closed down. I can't remember what else I do when I go to Toronto.

If you purchase much, you might want to try and get some money back from the taxes through the GST Rebate Program for visitors.

Very good public transportation system. Although it can be crowded, but take the subway, you should be fine. Don't rent a car, traffic is hell and so is the price of parking.

Also, be sure to drop by the Eaton Centre area - that's Yonge & Dundas. You won't find a higher concentration of beautiful women anywhere in Canada, and probably a good chunk of the continent. Check out some restaurants around there - Superior, which is just across the street is great, the people there have a great sense of humor. If you walk down Yonge and go North from Eatons, you'll find a restaurant called Retro Rotissorie - they've got some of the best food i've ever tasted. If you end up there, tell Andy that Max sent you.

The gap between the train and the platform. It didn't seem to be any different than what I have seen on numerous other subway systems but thye had signs everywhere saying that. It is a great city and the zoo is awesome as well.
