I have THIS motherboard & was wondering if the newer VIA All In One's will wourk for it ?

This is not my computer , it's a friend's & I'm helping him out as he does'nt have the cash for a new 'puter :)
Trying to speed things up & stuff for him :)

Sys specs :

Win 98 Sec Ed.
AMD K6-?/500mhz
Just upgraded from 64mb to 256mb ram which helped alot . (bought ram on forum here & it works great , have to thank that guy later)
Video/Display Adapter is an SIS 6326 (driver ver. 4.11.01.1280)

Deleted Norton SYSTEM works crap as it was hogging all resources !
I also deleted 67,449 Temp Internet Files earlier ! (407mb recovered)
I'd love to delete AOL too but he uses it ! (trying to talk him into a local ISP)

Any help with info on the VIA drivers , SIS video adapter drivers or anything else would be greatly appreciated ;)

From Via Arena's Hyperion download page:
**Note: Win95/98/98SE are now relatively old operating systems, and drivers are no longer optimized for those operating systems. Many users of VIA chipsets who run Win95/98/98SE report that using an older version, such as VIA 4in1 version 4.35, they experience a more responsive system.

The Via 4in1435 can be downloaded HERE.

According to them, they want you to DL the VIA drivers so go ahead with the link above....

(like yours)

VIA MVP3 Chipset
SMC669 I/O chip

Users with hybrid chipsets (with a VIA southbridge and AMD northbridge for example) should obtain drivers from their motherboard manufacturer

The board that CorCentral linked to doesn't use mixed chipsets; based on the picture, both the northbridge and southbridge chips are VIA. That SMC chip is just the I/O chip, which I think is for things like serial and parallel ports.

Thanks guys ;)

One more question on the Video card .

It's an SIS 6326 8mb pci
I just dug through all my old computer stuff & found an ATI all in Wonder 128 pci 32mb .
Was wondering how much of a performance boost he would get if I upgraded him to that ? Of course this would be free for him as I no longer use the card ;)

This is not a mixed chipset. The I/O chip almost always comes from an independent manufacturer, SMsC, Winbond, ITE, whoever. This is nothing to do with the chipset parts (north and south bridges or all-in-one).

VIA's drivers, even the most recent ones, are good for all chipsets down to the Apollo VP1 with "586" south bridge.

The oldest Via chipset that I have in use is the 694T/686B and the Hyperion 4.47 is fine with it. I was just erring on the side of caution by pointing out that blurb about using older drivers with Win9x.
