I have five wires going to the thermostat:

White
Green
Red
Yellow
Blue

For my old thermostat:
Yellow was connected to both W and Y
Red was connected to Rc
Green was connected to G
White was connected to O

For the new Honeywell RTH230B, I tried the following
Green to G
Yellow to Y
White to W
Red to Rc
Jumper connecting Rc and Rh
Blue unused.
That didn't work, so I tried

Green to G
Yellow to Y
White to W
Red to Rc
Blue to Rh
That didn't work, so looking at the old one, I tried

Green to G
Red to Y
White to W
Yellow to Rc
Blue to Rh
That blew heat when set to cool.

At this point I do not know what is set wrong. I don't think the colors are accurate. I'm fine with it being an ID10T error. Anyone know more about this and willing to post some tips?

Thanks!

I always hated thermostat wiring colors. I once built a thermostat from scratch using a pic micro and relays, programmable from the web. I asked the local AC guy about the wire colors on my unit and he wrote them down, then told me, or at least those are the colors I use, some use other ones ?
I was like gee thanks

It is the only wiring system I have seen that is use whatever color you feel like.

Yes, this does help, thank you!

It tells me that I bought the wrong thermostat.

Le sigh.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you made an incorrect purchase DAGTA :( , although I'm glad I could help a bit. :)

The best part: I dropped the old thermostat when swapping it back to see if it still worked and it broke. So... No A/C for me tonight... in Phoenix, where it's 90F at 8:45pm.

Lowes and Home Depot are already closed and Wal-mart only had the same model I just bought.

Thanks again for the help!

It sound like you have an older 4 wires system, and the newer thermostat can handle up to 5 wires. See here for wiring diagram. for the Honeywell RTH230B.

Note: These thermostats are not compatible with heat pumps or
multi-stage systems.

Were can I send you the bill ;)
